Garden Day
Mixed media, 2023
The project titled "Garden Day" is based on the story of Bearice, who is locked in a garden in Nathaniel Hawthorne's book "Rapaccini's Daughter", and the women who appear in photographs taken in the garden in a family album. In the book, the life of Rapaccini's daughter Beatrice continues in the garden created by her scientist father; It disappears under the influence of the other two male characters who hold the rights to reason, science and experiment. For Beatrice, nature is a man-made garden; For the women who appear in front of the gardens, it turns into a nature that they identify with with all its liveliness and will. At the intersection of these two stories, the project focuses on women and non-human creatures standing at the border of nature and culture.
